I'll be using solid maple linings for the SFSF A-5. I make them thin enough to easily bend to shape, but will double them on the ribs.

One lining glued in place with hot hide glue

Trimming another lining, and checking the fit before gluing; often called dry fitting.

After clamping, I'll use a brush and hot water to clean up any glue squeeze out, then use the ever-present hair drier to quickly dry everything so not to cause damage or warping from excess moisture.

When done clamping, I leave the rim set like this, upside down, so the weight of all those clamps doesn't hurt the delicate rim set.

Once everything's dry, and both sets of linings are in place, I'll use my smallest curved finger plane to round the linings over just a bit.

Not only cosmetically more appealing, this also removes a good bit of excess weight.

Sam's J-5 gets the same treatment, but with solid walnut linings. Walnut bends so nicely I may just go ahead and use it as linings for everything, soon.
